Anambra kidnap suspect arrested — Residents of Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have remained in shock following the arrest of a popular motor spare parts dealer, popularly known as “Fabulous.” Authorities linked him to alleged kidnapping and other criminal activities.
According to security sources, the suspect operated a thriving spare parts business at Mgbuka Market, Obosi. However, investigators now believe he secretly ran a kidnapping syndicate from his residence.
Sources said the suspect used a massive duplex as a hideout for criminal operations. Investigators reportedly discovered a shrine inside the compound. They also found areas allegedly used to keep kidnapped victims and dismantle stolen vehicles.
Residents claimed the businessman owned a large warehouse filled with different motor spare parts. He also allegedly possessed several luxury vehicles, including Toyota Corolla cars, Lexus RX 350 SUVs, and Toyota Sienna buses.

“People never suspected him because he appeared wealthy and friendly. Nobody imagined such activities were allegedly happening inside that compound,” a community source said.
The incident reportedly began on Sunday morning when police operatives tracked a stolen vehicle to the suspect’s residence. On arrival, security operatives allegedly came under heavy gunfire from the compound.
During the exchange, the gang allegedly killed one police officer. However, reinforcement teams arrived quickly. As a result, several gang members reportedly fled by jumping over the fence after running out of ammunition.
Security operatives later arrested the suspect while he allegedly attempted to escape.
Police also reportedly rescued about eight kidnapped victims from the compound. One of the victims was said to be the Chief Executive Officer of Crown Hospital, Nkpor. The doctor was reportedly kidnapped recently.
Sources alleged that the kidnappers demanded about N500 million ransom before security operatives intervened.
“The discovery shocked everyone in the community. People became angry immediately they heard kidnapped victims were rescued from the compound,” an eyewitness stated.
Following the operation, angry youths and residents reportedly set parts of the suspect’s buildings and properties ablaze. Security agencies later restored calm in the area.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Government reportedly demolished structures linked to the suspect on Tuesday as investigations continue.
Security analysts said the incident highlights the need for stronger community vigilance and intelligence gathering in the fight against kidnapping across Nigeria.
Residents have also urged security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at exposing criminal networks hiding behind legitimate businesses.
Police authorities are yet to release a detailed official statement on the investigation.
