A young Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after allegedly confessing at a police station that he staged a fake bandits attack story just to gain followers on TikTok.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the visibly emotional young man pleaded for forgiveness while explaining that his actions were motivated by the desire for online fame and engagement.

According to him, he never intended for the situation to escalate the way it did.

“I raised a fake bandits attack just to gain TikTok followers, please forgive me. My Ileya customers’ clothes are still in my shop.”

The incident has since generated mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some Nigerians condemned the act and described it as dangerous misinformation, others expressed sympathy for the young man over the possible consequences he may face.

Many social media users also warned content creators against spreading false information for clout. They stressed that fake security reports can create panic and mislead the public.

Meanwhile, authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding possible charges against the young man.

The viral clip was shared by Abdullahayofel on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday.
