Army hands over blogger to civil authorities – The Nigerian Army has handed over a blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, also known as Justice Crack, to civil authorities for further investigation over alleged subversive activities.
In a statement released on Friday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the Army took the action after ongoing investigations into the blogger’s interactions with some soldiers.
According to the statement, preliminary findings show that Chidiebere engaged soldiers in discussions on several sensitive issues. The Army alleged that these conversations included remarks that bordered on incitement and attempts to create discontent within the military system.
“The matter is being investigated for breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public,” the Army said.
Furthermore, the Army explained that it raised concerns after complaints from some soldiers over feeding and welfare issues appeared on social media. It added that these complaints triggered deeper scrutiny into the source of the discussions.
While military authorities currently hold the affected soldiers in custody, the Army confirmed that it has transferred the blogger to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Army stressed that any attempt by civilians to influence military personnel in ways capable of undermining discipline carries serious implications for national security.
“Any action aimed at inciting military personnel or eroding discipline within the Armed Forces poses a grave threat to national security,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, due process, and professional conduct in handling the matter.
Lieutenant Colonel Anele further stated:
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding national sovereignty within the ambit of the law. We will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure a thorough and lawful resolution of this case.”
