Kidnapped Army General Katsina — Fresh concerns over insecurity in Nigeria have emerged after bandits reportedly released the first video of a senior Army General who was abducted alongside his wife on the Matazu Highway in Katsina State.

The disturbing footage, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, June 6, 2026, showed the senior military officer and his wife in captivity as their abductors appeared to issue demands.

Although security authorities had yet to release an official statement on the video at the time of filing this report, the development has triggered widespread reactions from Nigerians who expressed shock that a high-ranking military officer could fall victim to kidnappers.

According to a post accompanying the video, the kidnappers released the footage days after carrying out the abduction along the Matazu axis of Katsina State.

“Bandits released the first video of the Army General who was kidnapped with his wife along Matazu Highway in Katsina. If an Army General is no longer safe in this country, then ordinary citizens have even greater reasons to be concerned about their safety,” the post stated.

Meanwhile, the video has reignited debates about the worsening security situation across parts of northern Nigeria. Many Nigerians took to social media platforms to question how criminals successfully targeted a senior military officer despite ongoing security operations against banditry.

Furthermore, security analysts have warned that attacks on senior government and military personnel could embolden criminal groups if authorities fail to respond decisively.

Reacting to the development, some concerned citizens expressed deep frustration over the persistent security challenges facing the nation.

“This incident shows that insecurity remains a major challenge. If a senior military officer can be kidnapped, then stronger measures are needed to protect all Nigerians,” a social media user wrote.

Several residents of Katsina State also expressed fears over the increasing boldness of armed groups operating along major highways. Consequently, they urged security agencies to intensify surveillance and strengthen intelligence gathering to prevent similar incidents.

In recent years, bandit attacks, kidnappings, and highway ambushes have continued to pose significant challenges in parts of the North-West region despite repeated military offensives.

As a result, many travelers now avoid certain routes, especially after dark, due to fears of abduction and violent attacks.

Nevertheless, security observers believe the reported kidnapping of a senior Army General could prompt renewed efforts by security agencies to track down the perpetrators and secure the victims’ release.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
