Edo kidnapped man rescued — Security operatives have rescued a 56-year-old kidnapped man, Saturday Enakhimon, after a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

The kidnappers abducted Enakhimon on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Igueben, Edo State. However, operatives of the Edo State Police Command rescued him during a coordinated operation in Eguaholor forest.

The rescue mission started around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Officers from the Ehor Division joined forces with members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes after receiving credible intelligence about the gang’s hideout.

During the operation, the suspects opened fire on the security team. In response, the operatives engaged them in a gun battle and overpowered the gang.

One suspected gang member, identified as Prince Momodu James, died during the exchange of gunfire. Meanwhile, security operatives arrested three suspects. They include Bright Junior, 25; Salisu Abubakar, 27; and Prince Momodu James, 27.

The operatives also recovered a cut-to-size gun, a motorcycle, ATM cards, ₦800,000 cash, and other incriminating items from the suspects.

Fortunately, the rescue team found Saturday Enakhimon alive and unharmed. Medical personnel are currently attending to him.

Reacting to the operation, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the Edo State Police Command, the Edo State Security Corps, and vigilante members for their courage and teamwork.

Furthermore, police authorities described the successful mission as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations and tackle kidnapping across the country.

Residents also praised the swift intervention. According to them, the operation restored confidence in the community after days of fear and uncertainty.
