Flávio Bolsonaro, the defeated Brazilian presidential candidate, has landed in Miami after fleeing Brazil. The 45-year-old senator arrived with his family on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. local time. The Trump administration had granted them US visas a day earlier. Bolsonaro lost Sunday’s runoff to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

According to Argentina’s migration authority, the family first crossed into Argentina at a bridge border crossing. They then travelled to Ecuador. Argentina said they held valid documents and faced no legal impediment. The plane landed at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport.

President Donald Trump said he approved of the family’s entry and called them “fine people.” He also called the Brazilian election “very strange” and earlier described it as rigged. A Trump adviser told CNN that US officials made clear on Monday that Bolsonaro would be allowed in.

Reports say Bolsonaro faced a court deadline of about 24 hours to surrender his passport. It is unclear whether he complied before leaving Brazil. Bolsonaro rejected the election result. AP also reported that he arrived amid an investigation. He has not been convicted of any crime.

His father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, did the same after losing the 2022 election. Jair is now serving a prison sentence over a coup attempt. After the 2022 loss, he also went to Florida but returned to Brazil three months later. Meanwhile, Flávio visited the White House in May.

Sojworldnews could not find a response from Lula’s government in the reports reviewed. We will update this story as more details emerge.
