Justice Zainab Bulkachua Withdraws From Atiku’s Election Petition Tribunal

The PDP seemed to have won a major battle when the President of the Court of Appeal and Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), Justice Zainab Bulkachua withdrew on Wednesday as a result of a petition filed by the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku and the PDP are, by their petition, challenging the outcome of the last presidential election, won by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They alleged, in a motion, that Justice Bulkachuwa was likely to be biased in view of her husband and son being members of the APC.

In a ruling this evening, the five-man PEPT rejected the motion by Atiku and his party for being unmeritorious.

But, justice Bulkachuwa, elected to exclude herself from the tribunal “on personal grounds.”

She said a new member would be appointed in her place and that the other four members of the tribunal could proceed to deal with preliminary issues In relation to the four petitions currently pending before the tribunal.
