A group known as the Oracles of the Grassroots has reacted to the petition of alleged graft against former Governor of Osun State and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola by Pelumi Olajengbesi.

In its reaction titled, “A Counter-Opinion: Call for Objective Review and Rejection of Politically-Tainted Petition” made available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, the group commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for their professional conducts.

They posited that the petition by Olajenbesi is more of political vendetta than a legal submission.

It said the petition “lacks due diligence‘, it contains “Abuse of Legal Privilege and Professional Ethics” and it is more of “weaponization of Anti-Corruption Institutions.”

You’ve written with the urgency of a man convinced that history waits for his pen. But after reading your article, “Oyetola Ongoing Corruption Investigation: We Must Continue to Commend the EFCC as It Stands Tall in This Defining Moment,” one can’t help but wonder:

Have you cracked your head politically with a coconut, hoping for milk, only to find shell splinters instead?

Let’s be honest: your letter to the EFCC reads less like a legal submission and more like a script from political theatre, with you playing both lead actor and choreographer.

You serenade the Commission with the enthusiasm of a hired choir singing hymns of justice while dancing to the rhythm of partisan interests.

You invoke the language of integrity, but your timing betrays you. Why now? Why this case? Why this sudden outpouring of faith in the EFCC’s “defining moment”?

Is it coincidence that this moment conveniently targets your political adversaries? Would your pen still bleed such righteous ink if the spotlight turned inward? Or would silence become your loudest argument?

Your call for justice noble as it may sound is drenched in selective outrage. And selective outrage is the counterfeit currency of public advocacy. When activism becomes a sword for political vengeance, justice is no longer the goal, it becomes a casualty.

Let it be clear: the EFCC needs independence, not applause. And certainly not a megaphone for town criers who only call for thunder when their sponsors predict rain.

Our Position

We, the concerned grassroots stakeholders, respond directly to your petition alleging financial misconduct during the tenure of His Excellency, Gboyega Oyetola.

While we uphold the EFCC’s constitutional role, we urge the Commission to reject your petition for the following reasons:

1. Absence of Due Diligence

Your petition lacks procedural backbone. Before rushing to the EFCC, did you confirm:

Whether the Osun State Auditor-General raised any official audit query during Oyetola’s tenure?

Whether the Public Procurement Board filed any negative report or objection?

If these documents exist, present them. Until then, your petition reads like political fiction, not legal fact.

2. Abuse of Legal Privilege and Professional Ethics

As a legal practitioner, you are bound by the Rules of Professional Conduct—particularly Rule 1, which demands objectivity and forbids conduct that stains the image of the profession.

Your petition, laced with conjecture and partisanship, raises serious ethical concerns.

3. Weaponization of Anti-Corruption Institutions

The EFCC must not be reduced to an instrument of political warfare. Entertaining such petitions undermines public trust and distracts from genuine anti-corruption efforts.

Conclusion

We respectfully call on the EFCC to:

Dismiss your petition for lack of merit and evidence;

Engage relevant professional bodies to evaluate whether your conduct aligns with the noble ethics of the legal profession.”
