Kwankwaso denies Tinubu alliance — Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has finally addressed growing speculation linking him with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rumours gained momentum after several political commentators and party insiders alleged that Kwankwaso was quietly working in favour of President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

However, Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya Movement strongly denied the reports. They described the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a statement released by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, the group insisted that Kwankwaso had not entered into any negotiation with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or President Tinubu.

“Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has never at any time entered into negotiations, discussions, or meetings with the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, or any proxy for the purpose of defection,” the statement said.

The statement also clarified that the last formal meeting between Kwankwaso and Tinubu took place in January 2024. According to the group, both leaders only discussed national issues and their long-standing political relationship.

“There was no discussion whatsoever regarding defection, political bargaining, or party alignment,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the political tension intensified after reports surfaced alleging that Kwankwaso was indirectly helping Tinubu weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 election.

Reacting to the controversy, some political observers claimed that the former Kano governor’s recent political moves had created confusion within opposition circles.

In addition, media personality Dele Momodu recently alleged that Tinubu’s political dominance forced opposition figures like Peter Obi and Kwankwaso to move closer politically.

“Tinubu forced all of them together. That is why they all moved in one direction,” Momodu reportedly said during a television interview.

Nevertheless, Kwankwaso dismissed growing rumours about any secret alliance with the APC. He maintained that no final decision had been taken concerning his political future.

The former presidential candidate also urged Nigerians to ignore unverified reports circulating across social media platforms.

Furthermore, analysts believe the latest development may shape opposition politics ahead of the next presidential election, especially as talks of possible alliances involving Peter Obi and Kwankwaso continue to dominate political discussions nationwide.

As political activities gradually intensify, many Nigerians now await the next major move from Kwankwaso and other opposition leaders ahead of 2027.
