NYSC member killed Abuja – Sani Jimoh, father of the late Abdulsamad Jamiu, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member allegedly killed by soldiers of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Force in Dei-Dei, Shagari Estate, Abuja, has said military operatives told him that his son’s death was a mistake.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, has triggered nationwide outrage and renewed demands for accountability over military operations in civilian communities.
Jimoh said soldiers who visited the family initially claimed they were pursuing armed robbers, but later admitted the shooting was not intentional.
“They said they were pursuing a thief, but they couldn’t find him, so they entered the compound. Later, they told me it was a mistake,” he said.

The family has rejected the military’s account, insisting that Abdulsamad was shot inside his room and that no robbery took place in the area that night.
They also alleged that no weapon was recovered and that there was no evidence of a gun battle, contrary to the Army’s claim that the victim may have been caught in crossfire.
According to the family, soldiers entered the estate during a midnight operation and forced their way into the compound, where Abdulsamad was fatally shot through his bedroom door.
They further accused some operatives of attempting to tamper with the scene before police fully secured the area.
The Nigerian Army, through the Guards Brigade, maintains that its troops responded to a robbery distress call and engaged fleeing suspects. However, residents and the victim’s family strongly dispute this version.
An internal investigation has reportedly been launched, while the police have documented the incident and released the body to the family for burial.
The bereaved family is demanding an independent probe, prosecution of those responsible, and a public clarification of what truly happened.
