Osun State has taken a bold step toward sustainability and local ownership of Family planning and Adolescent/Youth Reproductive Health (FP/AYRH) programs. This is in preparation for its transition from The Challenge Initiative (TCI)’s intensive technical support to a self-reliant phase.

In a strategic workshop held today, Thursday, May 22, 2025 in Osogbo, stakeholders developed a 12-month transition workplan to ensure the continued implementation and sustainability of High Impact Interventions (HIIs) and High Impact Practices (HIPs) in FP/AYRH.

The workshop brought together representatives from the Osun State Ministry of Health, the State Primary Health care Board, Local Government Health Authorities, and partners. The transition workplan outlines key activities, responsible actors, timelines, and milestones to maintain the gains recorded during TCI’s support and to integrate successful approaches into routine government systems.
Speaking during the workshop, Dr. Adebusola Oyeyemi, TCI State Program Manager, commended Osun State for its leadership and commitment.

Osun State has demonstrated remarkable political will and technical capacity over the past few years. The transition is not an end but a new beginning, a shift from intensive support to self-reliance,” she said.

With this 12-month workplan, Osun is laying a clear roadmap for institutionalizing proven interventions and sustaining impact at scale.”

Echoing this, the Osun State Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs. Ololade Abatan, emphasized the importance of government ownership and multi-level accountability.

This transition plan is our collective blueprint to ensure no woman, man, or young person is left behind in accessing quality family planning and reproductive health services,” she said.

We’re not just continuing activities, we’re strengthening systems, mobilizing domestic resources, and ensuring that what worked under TCI becomes part of how we deliver health care everyday.”

The transition plan prioritizes the implementation of TCI’s proven approaches and High Impact Interventions (HIIs), such as, demand generation, inreaches, outreaches, adolescent- and youth-friendly service delivery, and data-driven decision-making.

With clear commitment from the state and its partners, Osun is poised to become a model of post-TCI sustainability, ensuring that family planning and reproductive health interventions remain available, accessible, and impactful for all.
