U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a new proclamation restricting entry into the United States for citizens from several countries, citing national security concerns.

The travel restrictions, announced on Wednesday, will take effect on Monday. According to a statement from the White House, the measure is aimed at preventing potential threats from entering the country by targeting nations with inadequate security screening.

The proclamation imposes a full travel ban on nationals from 12 countries identified as high-risk due to weak vetting systems.

These counties include Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

In addition, partial restrictions have been placed on travelers from seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

The White House noted that the order allows exceptions for lawful permanent residents, individuals with valid visas, certain visa classifications, and those whose entry aligns with U.S. national interests.

The administration stated that the restrictions are intended to pressure foreign governments to improve their security cooperation, enhance enforcement of U.S. immigration policies, and advance broader foreign policy and counterterrorism goals.

Trump, referring to the measure, said: “We will reinstate the travel ban—some call it the Trump travel ban—to protect our country and keep radical Islamic terrorists out.”

This marks a continuation of Trump’s earlier travel ban during his presidency, which was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court as being within the legal authority of the President and rooted in national security concerns.

The White House emphasized that the decision followed a review led by the Secretary of State and other senior officials, concluding that restrictions were necessary to protect American citizens and maintain public safety.
