Veteran Sports Commentator, Fabio Lanipekun is dead

One of Nigeria’s foremost sports journalists and ace broadcaster, Fabio Lanipekun has died, just four days after celebrating his 80th birthday.

A Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) official close to the family confirmed his death.

It comes just a week after another iconic sports journalist, Sunny Emmanuel Ojegbase, died in the United States (U.S.) at 71 after a brief illness.

Confirming his death on Social Media, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, via a post on her Twitter handle on Sunday night mourned the accomplished journalist.

She wrote: “I mourn the death of my former boss & mentor, Fabio Lanipekun who passed away today- 4 days after his 80th birthday.
Fabio encouraged my move from NTA Ibadan to Lagos, burnished my skills and taught me hardwork & discipline.
May God grant him peaceful repose & bless his family.”
