Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed how popular Nollywood actor-turned-politician,
Desmond Elliot, almost caused him to lose his appointment at the Presidency.
Gbajabiamila made the revelation during a public event while speaking humorously about his long-standing relationship with the Lagos lawmaker.
According to him, the controversy surrounding Desmond Elliot during the #EndSARS protests generated serious political tension that nearly affected his own position as Chief of Staff.
“I almost lost my job as Chief Of Staff to the president because of Desmond Elliot,” Gbajabiamila said while addressing guests at the gathering.
Although he spoke in a lighthearted manner, the statement immediately sparked reactions online, especially among Nigerians who still remember the backlash Desmond Elliot faced during the 2020 #EndSARS movement.
At the peak of the protests, Elliot came under heavy criticism after a viral video showed him condemning social media influencers and celebrities during a plenary session at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Consequently, many Nigerians attacked him online, while several public figures openly expressed disappointment over his comments.
Gbajabiamila, however, suggested that the political fallout from the incident extended beyond Elliot himself and affected allies associated with him.
