“Having fulfilled the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party is hereby declared the winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election,” the electoral officer announced.

Meanwhile, political observers described the outcome as a reflection of the strong support enjoyed by Nwogu across the senatorial district.

The by-election attracted significant attention because all four political parties that participated in the contest are reportedly members of the political coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Furthermore, sources within the coalition revealed that the group had earlier agreed to support Senator Olaka Nwogu as its preferred candidate for the election.

The development appears to have contributed to the wide margin recorded in the final result, with Nwogu securing the vast majority of votes cast across the district.

Political stakeholders are now expected to assess the implications of the result on the evolving political landscape in Rivers State, especially as alliances continue to shape electoral contests in the state.
