Gunmen Open Fire On Accord Chairman In Osogbo, Police Begin Manhunt

Osun Accord chairman shot — The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as “Baba Isila”, has been shot by suspected gunmen in what police described as an attempted murder attack. 0

The attack reportedly occurred around 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday in the MDS area of Osogbo. According to eyewitness accounts, armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on a vehicle conveying Ajibola and his associates before fleeing the scene. 1

Following the attack, police operatives responded to a distress call and evacuated the injured politician to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he is currently receiving treatment. Authorities said he remains in stable condition and is responding positively to medical care.

“A team of police officers swiftly evacuated the victim to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment,” the Osun State Police Command said. 3

Furthermore, preliminary investigations at the scene led to the recovery of exhibits now undergoing forensic analysis as detectives intensify efforts to identify the attackers. 4

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, has directed all relevant investigative units to deploy available resources toward unraveling the circumstances surrounding the shooting. 5

“No stone will be left unturned in the ongoing investigation,” the police assured residents while urging members of the public to provide credible information that could aid the manhunt. 6

Osun Government Condemns Attack

The Osun State Government also condemned the shooting and called for a thorough, professional, and unbiased investigation.

Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, described the incident as unfortunate and stressed that those behind the attack must face justice. According to him, available evidence suggests possible political undertones that require careful investigation. 7

“The culprits must be brought to book. Security agencies must investigate professionally and without fear or favour,” Alimi said. 8

Growing Concern Over Political Violence

The shooting has raised fresh concerns about political violence ahead of critical political activities in Osun State. Stakeholders have continued to call for restraint among political actors and enhanced security measures to protect lives and property.

As of press time, security agencies were still combing the area and pursuing leads aimed at apprehending the attackers. 9
