Supreme Court restores ADC leadership – Nigeria’s Supreme Court has restored the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under former Senate President David Mark, ending a major chapter in the party’s leadership crisis.
In a unanimous decision delivered on Thursday, the apex court set aside the earlier order that directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of the dispute. As a result, the ruling effectively reinstates the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC.
The judgment marks a significant legal victory for the opposition party. It also strengthens its preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. Furthermore, the court returned the substantive leadership dispute to the Federal High Court for determination on its merits.
“This judgment is a victory for democracy and for every Nigerian who believes in justice,” a senior party official said.
Reacting to the verdict, party leaders described the ruling as a triumph for justice, internal democracy, and the rule of law. They said the judgment has reaffirmed the legitimacy of the current leadership and restored confidence among party members nationwide.
“It reaffirms our commitment to internal democracy, party unity, and the rule of law,” the official added.

The ADC also said the ruling would further energize its mission to provide Nigerians with a credible and people-focused political alternative.
“Hope is alive. Democracy stands strong. Nigeria will move forward,” the party stated.
Meanwhile, political observers believe the verdict could reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. With the leadership question now largely settled, the party can focus on consolidation, grassroots mobilization, and policy engagement.
The ruling comes at a crucial time. In recent weeks, uncertainty over the party’s leadership had raised concerns about its readiness for future electoral contests. However, the Supreme Court’s decision has now provided much-needed clarity and stability.
For many supporters, the judgment is more than a legal victory. It is a renewed call for unity, reform, and democratic progress.
As the ADC moves forward under David Mark’s leadership, expectations will remain high. Nigerians will be watching closely to see how the party translates this legal success into political momentum.
