Makinde Operation Wetie remark – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, over his recent comments referencing “Operation Wetie.” The party described the remark as dangerous, insensitive, and unbecoming of a sitting governor.

In a sharp response on Monday, APC accused Makinde of using politically charged language that could heighten tension in the state. The party also claimed that the governor’s statement showed poor judgment and lack of responsibility.

An APC spokesperson stated:

“Governor Makinde has once again demonstrated that he is unworthy of the office he occupies. His comments are reckless and capable of inciting unrest. Leaders must act with caution, not emotion.”

The controversy began after Makinde referenced “Operation Wetie” while addressing political issues in the state. The phrase, historically linked to political violence in Nigeria’s old Western Region, has triggered strong reactions across party lines.

However, APC insists that the governor’s statement was not only unnecessary but also dangerous in a fragile political climate. The party further warned that such rhetoric could reopen old wounds and deepen political divisions.

Meanwhile, supporters of the governor argue that his comments were taken out of context. They maintain that Makinde was referring to historical lessons rather than encouraging violence.

Despite this defense, APC maintained its position and demanded that the governor issue a public clarification. The party also urged political leaders in Oyo State to prioritize peace and stability over political rivalry.

Furthermore, APC emphasized that Nigeria’s democracy depends on responsible communication from elected officials. According to the party, leaders must avoid statements that could be misinterpreted or weaponized.

As reactions continue to grow, political observers say the issue may further intensify tensions between the ruling party in Oyo State and the opposition.

For now, Governor Makinde has yet to issue a detailed response to the APC’s latest criticism.
